Outline Matte vs Color Matte*


Outline Matte and Color Matte are two mutually exclusiveTRAXIM modes. TRAXIM computes mattes faster in Outline Matte mode (compare to Color Matte).  Color Matte provides a higher level of detail near the edge and greater editing flexibility.

You can tell in which mode you currently working by viewing the line under Reset Controls button in Create Matte menu. Click the checkbox near Outline Matte in order to switch to Color Matte mode. (Alternatively click the checkbox near Color Range Key in order to switch from Color Matte mode to Outline Matte mode).

1. Switch to Outline Matte mode. Outline Matte controls ( located under Outline Matte) are active now.
2. Select Outlined Image display mode.
3. Set Outline Matte Size to 10.0, -10.0 and 0.0. Observe changes to the outline.
4. Select Matte display mode.
5. Set Overall Softness to 0, 5, 14. Observe the effect of these changes on the matte.
6. Set Overall Softness to 0 and vary Proportional Softness from 0 to 14.
7. Set Overall Softness to 14 and vary Outside Suppress from 0 to 100.
8. Click Reset Controls and confirm. This will set the outline matte controls to their default values.
9. Click the checkbox near Outline Matte. This will set Color Matte mode on, color matte controls active and Outline Matte off.
10. Compare the quality of color matte to the quality of outline matte.
11. Set Threshold to 100, 70, 35, 10. For each setting observe the increase in detail level in petals.
12.  Select Keyed Image display mode. Vary  Inside Fill and Fill Softness. Note the changes to the image.
13. Vary Outside Suppress and Suppress Softness.
14. Click Reset Controls and confirm. This will set the color matte controls to their default values.
