How to get the sysinfo
number and version of IRIX of your SGI machine.
1) Find out what version of IRIX you are running. Type " uname -R <Enter>
" in a UNIX shell. The following is an example of what you should see:
- unix_prompt> uname -R
- 6.5 6.5.4f
The displayed number (in this example "6.5.4f") is the version of IRIX which your machine is currently running.
2) If your IRIX version is 6.5 or newer:
Type "/etc/sysinfo -s <Enter>" in a UNIX shell. NOTE: You need to use the
-s option. The following is an example of what you should see:
- unix_prompt> /etc/sysinfo -s
- 1762299450
This resulting number is the Sysinfo number which you should send us.
If your IRIX version is OLDER than 6.5 then:
Type "/etc/sysinfo <Enter> " in a UNIX shell.
The following is an example of what you should see:
- unix_prompt> /etc/sysinfo
- System ID:

How to get the System
ID number of your Windows 95/98/NT/2000 machine.
NOTE: You require to have a network card installed on your
Windows machine.
First, you need to download the following file:
echoid.zip
Next, uncompress this file using WinZip, or any other .ZIP
compatible compression utility. It will extract two files: ECHOID.EXE and ECHOID.DAT.
Then, run (double-click) ECHOID.EXE. A pop-up window will appear which will display a code.
This is the code which you have to send us!
